Former Indian off -spinner R Ashwin has been given a clean chit by the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) from allegations of ball tampering. The allegations were made by the Madurai Panthers franchise on Ashwin and his team Dindigul Dragons. In fact, during the match played in Salem on 14 June, Madurai’s team complained that Dindigul Dragons used chemically treated towels to spoil the ball, causing trouble to play the batsmen.
What were the allegations
Madurai Panthers coach Shijit Chandran wrote in his complaint, “The position of the ball was very fast during our innings, which affected the performance of the batsmen. After the powerplay, every shot seemed as if the batsmen were attacking the cricket ball but on the stone. The fraud is equal to. “
What did TNPL say?
After reviewing the case, TNPL’s CEO Prasanna Kannan said that no evidence of the ball tampering was found. He clarified that the towels that were used were made available to all teams by TNCA (Tamil Nadu Cricket Association) and during the match, the umpire and match referee kept a close watch on the ball.
Prasanna Kannan said, ‘There was no objection during the match nor has any direct evidence. The allegations made are based on speculations and after the match. He also informed that if the Madurai franchise has any evidence (video, photo, or witness), they can demand an independent inquiry commission by 3 pm on 17 June.
According to Espncricinfo, the Madurai franchise lodged its complaint 24 hours after the end of the match, while the complaint should be lodged within 24 hours as per TNCA rules. Also, the complaint was not sent to the Honorary Secretary of TNCA, which is a violation of the process. However, to maintain transparency and fairness, TNPL accepted the complaint and investigated.
