Former South African veteran player and former Team India coach Gary Kirsten has finally made public the real reason behind resigning from the post of coach of Pakistan cricket team. He clarified that if there is no external intervention in the team operations, then he is ready to return as the coach of the Pakistan team in the future.
Gary Kirsten took the role of the Pakistan team’s white ball (ODI and T20) coach in April 2024, while Jason Gillespie was made a Test coach. However, he left his post within just six months. Now Mike Hessen has become the new coach of Pakistan’s white ball team in his place.
What did Gary Kirsten say
Gary Kirsten told that in a few months he realized that he would not get any real impact on the team. He said that it was some turbulent months. I realized very soon that I would not have any significant effect. When I was removed from the selection process and it was said that I just had to coach the team, but there would be no role in choosing the team, then it became very difficult for me to become an effective coach. There is more interference in the team.

Gary Kirsten further said that he is very impressed with the players of the Pakistan team and if he is given a chance again, he will definitely return – provided the circumstances are correct. He said that if I get a call again from Pakistan, I will go. But I will go for the players and go only in the right environment. “
Kirsten further said that cricket teams should be run by people associated with cricket. When this does not happen and there is a very impressive interference from outside, then the internal leaders of the team are unable to travel the journey they should do. I am so old now that I do not feel like struggling with someone else’s agenda. I just want to coach a cricket team, want to work with the players – I liked the players of Pakistan very much.
There is heavy pressure on players: Kirsten
He said that Pakistan’s players probably feel pressure to perform more than any team in the world. When they lose, the atmosphere becomes very turmoil. But he is a professional cricketer and I am a professional coach. When you are in the right environment and the team is talented, then you usually get success.
