Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS). The next day of the title victory, i.e. on June 4, RCB’s Victory Parade was held in Bengaluru. During the Victory Parade, there was a stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in which 11 fans were killed.
In the Chinnaswamy stampede case, the Karnataka police had registered an FIR taking action. After this, four people, including RCB’s marketing head Nikhil Sosale, were arrested by the Karnataka Police. Nikhil Sosale moved to the Karnataka High Court challenging the arrest. Sosale appealed to the court that his arrest is a violation of fundamental rights and this is a result of a political pressure.

Now on 12 June (Thursday), the Karnataka High Court has given great relief to Nikhil Sosale. The High Court has granted interim bail to Nikhil Sose and three others. Other people who get relief from the High Court include Sunil Mathew, Kiran Kumar S and Shamant NP Mavinakere of ‘DNA Entertainment Network Private Limited’. These three people were also arrested by the Karnataka police on 6 June.
High court ordered to submit passport
Justice SR Krishna Kumar reserved the verdict on Nikhil Sosh’s plea after hearing the arguments on 11 June. Sosh and other petitioners were in judicial custody. Although the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced Soses and other three arrested people before the local magistrate court on 9 June and sought 9 days of custody, the court deferred the hearing of the case while waiting for the High Court’s decision. Now the Karnataka High Court has given interim bail to these four, but they have asked them to submit their passports.

Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam also recently announced their resignation in the Chinnaswamy stampede case. Both of them left their post taking moral responsibility. However, KSCA had clearly stated that the decision of RCB’s honor ceremony was taken by the state government, hence the program was also organized in Vidhan Saudha. According to KSCA, neither he planned this ceremony nor organized it nor played any administrative role. KSCA convicted the government, RCB franchise and event organizers for the accident.
