The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have confirmed that Atkinson is now passing through the rehab under the supervision of England’s medical team. However, no fixed time-limit for his return has been released and according to reports, he is less likely to be fully fit for the first Test.

Atkinson is an emerging star of England’s fast bowling attack. He has impressed his speed, bounce and the ability to swing on both sides since he made his Test debut in July 2024. He has made an impressive record with 50 Test wickets in his debut calendar year. Taking 7 wickets in his debut match against the West Indies at Lord’s and taking a hat -trick against New Zealand are some of his major achievements of his career. In such a situation, if he is not able to fit till the first match, then it can prove to be a big shock for England.

The exit of a talented fast bowler like Gas Atkinson is a big relief for the Indian team. Atkinson’s absence will weaken the England fast bowling attack. He can bother Indian batsmen with his speed and boom, especially on England’s pitches where he can get additional bounce. If Atkinson is out of the first match, then Indian batsmen will not have to face a bowler who can bowl in Test cricket at a speed of more than 145 km/h.
