What did you say after the victory?

In the press conference after the match, Bawuma focused on the fact that a lot is yet to be done to establish his legacy in the longest format. He said, ‘We have said as a team, it was our conversation in our camp in our Erindel, that we like to evaluate ourselves after three, four years as a group. Take stock and see where we are. He further said, ‘It is a good thing that we have this mace as part of our journey, but in the case of leaving heritage, we understand that we are not leaving heritage after 2 years.’

Told the team’s next target

On what is the next goal for South African cricket, Bawuma reiterated how he wants to see his team winning in the subcontinent. He said, ‘Yes, we have created history, but as a group, we would like to do at least like the Graeme (Smith) and what their team did. They have established the standard and I do not think anyone has reached that standard yet. So as a group in 3-4 years, in 2027, I want us to be in a situation where we go to Pakistan, go to India and win there and do even better.

Not getting victory in India-Pakistan

Bawuma further said, ‘We have only two years, but they have achieved a lot of success in those two years, which we cannot ignore. I think we would like to see where we are in the next two years to get respect as a Test team. Let us know that last time South Africa defeated India in a Test match on foreign soil in Nagpur in 2010, while the last win over Pakistan was given in the Test match in Dubai in 2013.
